Adhesive bandages are required by the FDA to be evaluated for their safety before one is ever applied to your skin. The technical word for that is biocompatibility testing, which historically was only be done through the lens of animal testing. In recent years, the FDA has recognized that evaluating the safety of a medical device like the adhesive bandage doesn’t always need to be done through the sole use of animal testing. As a result, and within FDA requirements, we evaluate our bandages for safety by assessing the risk of newly introduced new materials in combination with our original biocompatibility testing and not animal testing.
